The end of yet another week. Welcome back! I hope this week was good to you. I thought today I'd do a blog talking about my Warrior Wednesday posts. Well, I don't post that here in the blogs. That's usually done on the socials, being: Instagram, X (Twitter), and Facebook. So if you're on one of those feel free to comment, like, and follow! I thought it sounded fun Warring on Wednesday because, honestly who isn't halfway through the week?
It was last November I believe, when I wanted to do a collection focusing on warriors from different cultures and places. And thus, I busted out four pieces; Bow and Arrow Warrior, Combat Movement, Viking Women, and Crouching Ninja. And more will be added with time!
Today I think I'll just focus on talking about one of them. The one in focus is Combat Movement.
This is one of two pieces that was ninja inspired! Inspired by what? Well some super hero, or Marvel shows to be exact, X-Men: The Animated Series, and The Incredible Hulk. She Hulk and Psylocke being two big focal inspirations! Now usually I do some cutesy/ silly/ sassy pose but, these shows gave me an itch to stretch my artistic abilities and create a fighting scene!
Now my process with setting up with a piece, I'll sketch out a few ideas (typically only being two..) and then translate that onto the paper I'll be using to draw on. I like to start off using a watercolor paper, do a watercolor base. Then build up the image with colored pencil, marker, gel pens, and finishing with black ink outlines.
This was a bit different with the set up of the girls because I actually used some models to help me get the anatomy correct. And what kind of models did I use?! If I remember correctly, I think the lady in black is from a dance move, and the one dropping down was from an actual fighting pose.
When it came to the outfits I wouldn't say I kept "accurate" but, as with all art, added my own interpretation to the piece. And with our jumping gal, it's also a bit hard to really show off a cute outfit, per say. Although personally, I'm quite pleased with them and how they turned out! Trying to keep with a "good" and "bad", yin and yang kinda vibe with the bright colors and dark colors. Who is who? Which is which? I don't know. Neither are either. Unless you want to put that title on them.
That brings us into the backgrounds. In all of these the background isn't really the focus but, an accent. Or a support. The focus of this piece is the girls, now I know that doesn't mean the background couldn't help with that. I just didn't want to dig that deep during this time. Maybe that'll change as time goes by.
Actually now that I'm bringing up the background! In the last few posts I haven't brought up my artwork on T-shirts! I have them on T-shirts!! Combat Movement is with and without a background on ladies shirts, for the moment! I'm not sure if any men would like to also sport my lovely ladies on a shirt, we are working on doing that for ya'll. If there are any in particular you'd like to wear (my guys) comment and let me know! We'll get you taken care of.
Is that all...? Did I miss anything? I think I Just about covered everything. Haha! Thank you for stopping by again for another blog. Next week I'll chat on about the other ninja inspired piece, Crouching Ninja!
I hope to see you next Friday. Have a fun weekend, if you're fun will get you into trouble: Don't get caught. Haha I'm joking but, I'm serious. Be careful out there it's rough out there...
